Tokologo now showing at State Theatre

The children’s theatre musical Tokologo – The Musical Garment will show at the South African State Theatre until 31 October 2021, following its majestic opening on 13 October 2021.

Written and directed by Zinhle Mbokane, the production confronts the kidnaping and killings of children in South Africa. This is achieved in a theatre approach that is educating, entertaining and fun for kids. The musicality of this cutting-edge narrative is one that will leave the kids off their seats amused, tapping, singing, and dancing along.

The story follows two boys on a quest to discover music notes and the gift of song that was handed down to them by a mysterious creature. As they embark on the journey alone without supervision of any elder, they come across an unexpected friend in the enchanted forest. Their new friend has a mischievous plan of action under his sleeve, landing the boys in an unforeseen destination. The story is told through puppetry, music and physical theatre.

Mbokane comments: “This piece educates on how a child can prevent or find help, should they find themselves in such a compromising situation. It further encourages kids to believe in themselves, and that they can be whatever they want and achieve anything they desire, beyond their wildest dreams. If they can Imagine it, they can achieve it! “
