6 April2018: Bongi & Collin
Versatile, contemporary and diverse are some of the words that come to mind when describing this dynamic singing duo of Bongi and Collin. Bongi and Collin have established themselves as one of the leading singing duo's in the country. Their music can be best described as contemporary gospel with a touch of RnB, Afro Pop and Soul.
South Africa was first introduced to Bongi and Collin way back in 2005 when they came 2nd and 1st respectively in the Gospel singing competition, "Gospel Star", which was aired on SABC 2.
During and after this show, their friendship blossomed, leading to a marriage of 11 years and two beautiful kids. It was this same spark that led to the formation of what we now call, Bongi and Collin (pretty much as the legendary couple Caiphus Semenya and Letta Mbuli) and years later they are still making sweet melodies together.
Bongi and Collin's musical journey as a duo has been a decorated one, starting with the release of their debut album "Makadunyiswe" in 2010, which earned them a SAMA Award for Best Urban Gospel Album. Their second album, "Live Again", released in 2013, was as successful, earning them the Best RnB Album at the South Africa's premier gospel awards show; the Crown Gospel Awards.
In 2017, they released their latest offering, "Been So Good" which was recorded in the US with renowned Gospel music producer, Stan Jones, to celebrate their love and celebrate 10 years as a singing duo.
Over the course of their musical journey, Bongi and Collin have collaborated with various leading artists in South Africa including HHP & Reason (Hip Hop), Jaziel Brothers, Kabomo (Afro Pop), DJ Christos, DJ Cleo (House), Gloria Bosman, Selaelo Selota (Jazz), Bishop Benjamin Dube, Joyous Celebration, Mthunzi Namba, Vuyo Mokeona and Keke (Contemporary Gospel) to name just a few.
The duo performed at various stages across the globe, including the SA's National Gospel Music Awards, the SABC Crown Gospel Awards, Midem Conference in France, SXSW Conference in the US, Bishop TD Jakes' MegaFest when it was held in South Africa, MegaGospel 1-6 and the Joy of Jazz Cape Town Festival.
They have since diversified their interests and can now proudly add author, vocal coach, inspirational speaker and
philanthropist against their names, having co-authored a book on building a solid a marriage called "Oneness", coached and helped form the Tshwane Gospel Choir, spoken at various youth and high school events and founded the "I Be Live
Foundation" where they help collect school uniforms for learners.
Together they have more than 25 years combined experience in the music industry. With such vast experience, they now own their own record label called H.O.W.S.E Records, which is set to record and educate aspiring artists about the music business.
The sky can only be the limit for this dynamic duo.
