LESEGO NKONYANE aka “Les-Ego” was born to entertain. Not only is she a talented musician but also mesmerises people when on stage. Lesego recently released an afro fusion album titled ‘Lesego Lame’. The album was produced by Tiny Mello and Johnny Mashego and has enjoyed airplay on national and community radio stations around the country.
Lesego started her career in 1998 by enrolling at the Fuba Music School in Johannesburg to make sure she understood everything about music. The following year she went to Mafikeng where she formed the all-female band, Deeva.
In 2002, Lesego was recruited by Tshwane popular women jazz band, Art Ensemble Ladies In Jazz, and she is still a member of the female outfit. Since her musical journey took off, she has had the opportunity to tour all over Africa. Lesego shared stages with the likes of Sibongile Khumalo, Jonas Gwangwa, Sipho Gumede and other internationally acclaimed musicians.
She was featured at the African and Jazz Music Nights at the State Theatre, where she was an opening act for Ernie Smith and two years later for Brian Themba.
As an actress she took part in Bubbly Bosoms in 2008, a play written by Palesa Mazamisa and Makgano Mmamabolo, she also took part in ‘Pula’, a musical directed by Dr Sello Galane, ‘Ambi Sistas’ directed by Mbongeni Ngema in 2005, ‘Mollo: The Woman in Me’ directed by Napo Masheane, and in many others.
LINDA KEKANA hails from Johannesburg, South Africa. Every once in a while a Jazz diva is born and Linda Kekana is someone whose music is unique in style, profound in content and ahead of its time. Linda Kekana is surely one such person. Linda Kekana carries influence of some of the richest music in South Africa. It is such influences that shaped Linda Kekana's present, and that will definitely have a bearing on the future that is about to take off with her debut solo album ‘Rebirth’. Linda Kekana is a product of the angelic voices of Letta Mbuli ad Shirley Bassey as much as she has drawn courage from the lyrical prowess of Miriam Makeba, Nina and Caiphus Semenya equally contributed to Linda Kekana's musical upbringing.
Listening to all these musicians made Linda Kekana realise that if these people could produce such good music she always could not help it but do her own thing also. Linda Kekana is also grateful for the influences she got from her family. Linda Kekana's immediate influences are from her mother, grandmother and her aunts. Every weekends they always found a reason to come together as a family and sing. In addition, a lot of Jazz from the neighbourhood surrounded her. The story of Linda Kekana and her music is one worth documenting. Linda Kekana always has a passion for music. Although she also loves R&B, when she finally made up her mind about following a musical career, she knew exactly what she wanted to do and that was jazz.
